Nick is an experienced public policy and strategy executive, who has led high-performing cross-functional teams in complex and contested environments.
Nick combines a deep understanding of business and corporate challenges with the judgement needed to chart a course in ambiguous and uncertain situations. He has advised governments, business, and not-for-profit organisations on a wide range of policy and program areas.

Influential work

  • Reformed the Australian Government’s international science funding framework to align international science topics and partners with strategic national priorities
  • Co-designed and implemented the Australian Government’s international trade supply chain security and trade compliance program, Australian Trusted Trader, increasing Australia’s international competitiveness by $3.2 billion
  • Co-managed the Australian Government’s flagship business capability program, that included developing performance and professional development frameworks to improve program service delivery standards
  • Authored the Lowy Institute’s analysis paper ‘Global Value Chains, Border Management, and Australian Trade’ that became the seminal policy rationale for the Australian Government’s international trade modernisation agenda
  • Negotiated with other governments’ administrations across the region to secure matched co-investment to support bilateral science and research.

Outside of Nous

Prior to joining Nous, Nick held a range of senior policy and program roles in the Australian Government. Nick is an admitted lawyer and was the Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s inaugural fellow to the Lowy Institute. Prior to that, Nick spent close to 10 years living and working overseas, primarily in South Korea and South Africa. He has a multi-disciplinary academic background that includes law, public policy, and an MBA (Executive) from Melbourne Business School.

In his spare time...

Nick cajoles his two young daughters with mixed success, supports the Adelaide Crows with a heady combination of irrational confidence and crippling anxiety, and discovers new places to visit.
