Nous Group will help to develop a roadmap for the UK further education sector to respond to the climate crisis in a landmark project for the Climate Commission for UK Higher and Further Education.

Nous will work with the Commission to develop a roadmap for how further education (FE) colleges can reduce emissions. Over two months, Nous will develop the roadmap with FE leaders, drawing on existing approaches and best practice from colleges, to help meet the Commission’s aim of net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 for universities and colleges.

The roadmap will be included in the Commission’s Action Plan, which will be presented to the sector and the public in late 2020.

Simon Lancaster, the leader of Nous’ London office, said the project reflected Nous’ support for the UK higher and further education sector and our commitment to respond to climate change.

“This is an opportunity for Nous to help institutions tackle one of the biggest challenges of our time,” Simon said. “We will draw on our extensive education sector experience to develop a roadmap that is practical, focused on outcomes and affordable for colleges.

“The response to the climate emergency is vital to us and our clients. We are delighted to support the Commission in its work to develop an ambitious, sector-wide plan to reduce emissions.”

The Climate Commission for UK Higher and Further Education was launched in November 2019 to unite the higher and further education sector to respond to the climate crisis. It is a partnership of the Association of Colleges, EAUC (The Alliance for Sustainability Leadership in Education), GuildHE and Universities UK. Members include students and senior leaders from institutions across the UK.

More information about the partnership can be found on the Climate Commission website. The completed roadmap will be made public and shared with all UK further education colleges.
