He brings deep experience from government and regulated industries, including higher education. He has led and advised on many major digital transformation and IT implementation programs, including new models of client management, service delivery, engineering reform and technology governance. John is an ardent advocate for ensuring that technology works for the people and organisations that invest in it, not vice versa.
Prior to Nous, John was the Director of Delivery at the NSW Department of Justice in charge of IT implementation across the Justice Cluster. Before that, he was the Director IT and chief information officer for the NSW Trustee and Guardian during its merger and digital transformation. He began his corporate career as a management consultant at Nous, specialising in business and digital strategy. In a past life, John was a medical scientist and computer engineer with published papers in structural biology, viral proteins, and microfluidic sensors.
John holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Biophysics), a Bachelor of Computer Engineering (First Class Honours, and 1st in degree) and a Bachelor of Medical Science from the University of Sydney. He also holds certifications in project management (PMBOK), software development (DevOps), cloud architecture (AWS), procurement (ICAC) and company administration (AICD).
When he’s not enjoying the company of his wife and two boys, John is a keen sabre fencer and coach. He founded a modestly famous academy, Sydney Sabre, published a book about the sport and was previously vice-president of the NSW Fencing Association.
