Mel Henry

Mel is an expert in educational psychology, specialising in interpersonal communication, organisational culture and strategy, and program evaluation.

She has extensive experience designing, managing and evaluating large organisational initiatives, and has led development of innovative digital solutions. Mel has particular expertise in higher education and people services, including establishing and managing programs focused on organisational culture and change, psychological support, diversity and inclusion, adult learning and conflict management.

Influential work

  • Completed PhD investigating first-year university students’ expectations, experiences and outcomes of online education, establishing a comprehensive framework to enhance online student outcomes
  • Designed and established an online university counselling service, empowering hundreds of students to access the support they need but may have been hesitant/unable to seek in person
  • Managed multi-million dollar grants, and led design, implementation and evaluation of associated initiatives, including the award-winning Curtin AHEAD program
  • Developed and applied award-winning, challenge-based learning software
  • Developed and implemented an organisational diversity and inclusion strategy, resulting in significantly increased participation of people from underrepresented backgrounds, and international recognition through Athena SWAN accreditation, Elevate RAP status, Pride in Diversity (AWEI) awards and Employer of Choice for Women citations.

Outside of Nous

Born in Melbourne, on the land of the Kulin nation, Mel relocated to Noongar boodja (Perth) with her partner in 2007, seeking WA’s relaxed, sun-soaked lifestyle. Prior to Nous, Mel worked for more than 20 years with higher education, government and not-for-profit organisations, leading the design, implementation and evaluation of people services and programs.

She has a background in psychology and is an experienced tutor, group facilitator and mediator. Mel has a passion for mental health and digital solutions that facilitate enhanced access to services. She holds a PhD in educational psychology and is a published researcher in the areas of online education, university student services, and diversity and inclusion.

In her spare time...

Outside of work, Mel enjoys spending quality time with her two young children in the great outdoors of Western Australia. She loves a long leisurely walk with her dog, listening to music, with coffee in hand.
