Michael is an accomplished people leader, change agent and strategist who has overseen and delivered significant transformation, cultural and business change programs.

He brings deep experience in financial services, spanning superannuation, investment management, life insurance, financial advice and strategy. He has spent more than 30 years in the sector, holding CEO and executive committee roles in large Australian financial services organisations. Clients value his pragmatic and collaborative approach to solving their most complex issues and taking advantage of opportunities. 

Influential work

  • Led the largest merger in Australian superannuation history (on behalf of QSuper), creating the Australian Retirement Trust, a $200 billion-plus fund, requiring extensive engagement with stakeholders including the board, government, regulators, staff and members
  • Transformed the culture, business operations, strategy and market positioning of a major superannuation fund, touching every element of the business and requiring the buy in of staff, members and the board 
  • Established a life insurance company and new distribution lines, all driven by a strong purpose and vision to deliver significant new products and services and a new entity 
  • Delivered a multi-year technology transformation program designed to uplift core systems, improve cyber footing and create a culture valuing data as an asset 
  • Developed and implemented corporate strategies that enabled multiple financial services organisations to respond to prevailing headwinds and take advantage of opportunities. 

Outside of Nous

Prior to Nous, Michael was the CEO of the QSuper Group. Michael was on the board of the Australian Council of Superannuation Investors and was an active contributor in the development of retirement income policy. Michael was previously Managing Director of Corporate Strategy at QIC and had prior roles with the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (previously the Insurance and Superannuation Commission) and AMP.

Michael supports the fantastic work of domestic violence charity RizeUp, including as a volunteer. He also sits on health and higher education advisory boards. 

Michael holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Queensland and a Bachelor of Commerce from Griffith University.  

In his spare time...

Michael enjoys travelling and weekend trips to Broadbeach on the Gold Coast with his wife. When he can fit it in, he enjoys riding his motorcycle on the mountain roads near Brisbane.
