Joshua McKinnon headshot
Joshua is a collaborative leader and listener with a passion for delivering meaningful outcomes for clients and communities.
He brings 5 years policy writing and project management experience and over 10 years of operational management and leadership. Joshua works in high-paced environments to work with communities and clients to deliver considered advice and insights in partnership with communities to help guide clients and deliver lasting outcomes. Joshua has worked across a broad range of sectors in both the private and public sector, in particular working in partnership with First Nations communities.

Influential work

  • Developed, led and reported on a co-designed census in partnership with an Aboriginal Community.
  • Managed the review of 13 Native Title Representative Bodies with the National Indigenous Australians Agency.
  • Led the evaluation of Clontarf Foundation activities in partnership with NSW Department of Education.
  • Led the launch and early implementation of Nous’ Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan and the transformation of Nous’ First Nations Practice Group.
  • Supported the design and led the early delivery of the Indigenous Leadership and Governance package.
  • Crafted internal investment strategy documentation at NIAA.
  • Crafted briefing to Cabinet from the Energy portfolio in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 Budget contexts at Department of Finance.
  • Led teams of up to 100 people in supermarkets.

Outside of Nous

Joshua was identified as a retail leader early in his supermarkets career and rapidly progressed his retail operations management career, becoming a store manager by the age of 25. Following this and while concurrently completing a Bachelor of Business (majoring in economics and finance), Joshua commenced as a Graduate at the Australian Government Department of Finance, working in the Environment and Energy Agency Advice Unit with the Budget and Financial Reporting group, advising the Minister for Finance and the Commonwealth Cabinet on policy and costs in the energy portfolio. Joshua then worked at the National Indigenous Australians Agency’s Business and Economic Policy Branch, developing policy and delivering programs in First Nations economic policy.

In his spare time...

Joshua likes spending time with his family, walking around nearby lakes with his family, going to the gym and playing basketball.
