Michael Stewart headshot
Michael is an experienced project manager, strategic advisor and evaluator with more than 10-years’ experience in health and sustainable development.
He has a particular interest and expertise in qualitative data collection and analysis. Prior to joining Nous, Michael worked for the United Nations Development Programme and the Ministry of Health and Population of Nepal. In Australia, he worked in research roles for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District and the University of NSW.

Influential work

  • Managing a four-year evaluation for the Australian Department of Health, investigating the impact and effectiveness of Public Health Network (PHN)-led programs to support those living with neurological conditions in regional, rural and remote areas
  • Managing a five-year process and outcomes evaluation of a pilot program to provide extended and additional support to young people currently in and transitioning from the out-of-home care system
  • In partnership with the Cancer Institute NSW, developed the next NSW Cancer Plan (2022 to 2026) to guide the future direction of cancer control in NSW
  • Completed a stock take and analysis of activities being implemented by PHNs, state and territory health departments and other service providers to support older people at the interface of the aged care, health and disability systems.

Outside of Nous

Michael has a particular interest in global health and sustainable development. In addition to his work in Nepal, his previous experience also includes projects in China, Fiji, Guatemala, Turkey and the Solomon Islands.
Michael holds a Master of International Public Health from the University of Sydney and a Bachelor of International Studies from the University of Sydney.
