Trent is an accredited statistician and lead data scientist who is highly skilled in applied statistics, machine learning, data visualisation, and software development.
He has extensive experience leading complex data analytics projects for public and private sector clients, with an emphasis on statistical modelling and causal inference for program evaluations. Trent is a published academic author and notable open-source statistical software developer with more than seven years of experience as the lead researcher and statistician on projects.

Influential work

    • Led statistical analysis for numerous program evaluations in the youth justice sector to estimate effectiveness in reducing offending behaviour, time spent in custody, and longitudinal criminogenic risk profiles
    • Led forecasting work to project the number of under-65-year-old entries into residential aged care, and quantified the cumulative impact of a nationwide policy change
    • Led statistical analysis to quantify the global market competitiveness of Australia as a study destination for international students in terms of fees, cost of living, and employability
    • Led statistical modelling for the evaluation of a program that provides community-based psychological support to at-risk mothers
    • Led cluster analysis and forecasting work for multiple projects with Australian universities using linked program-level data to identify and project market opportunities 

Outside of Nous

Before joining Nous, Trent was an associate at Grant Thornton Consulting and a statistician and researcher at The University of Queensland and Griffith University.

Trent is currently finishing his PhD in statistics, where he is developing statistical and genetic programming frameworks for finding informative time-series features. Trent is also an accomplished open-source statistical software developer and maintains numerous packages on the official R and Julia repositories.

In his spare time...

Trent can be found writing detailed statistical tutorials for his website, being a Dungeon Master for his D&D campaigns, and writing music for his metal band The Archon Rift.
