Our approach to AI is grounded in four core principles that ensure our work is safe, ethical, and aligned with client goals:

1. Foster openness and transparency. We communicate openly with our clients about how AI is used, its capabilities, and its limitations. We establish and document clear expectations with our clients, align with recognised international standards, and strictly adhere to client preferences and contractual requirements regarding AI use.  
2. Prioritise safety and security. We apply robust governance, security and privacy controls to ensure AI is used responsibly and securely. Oversight is provided through our internal AI Governance Group, with clear processes to identify and manage risks, protect sensitive information and comply with data sovereignty requirements. We limit the use of public AI tools to publicly available data only and all data is stored within approved jurisdictions.
3. Empower human expertise and judgment. AI enhances, rather than replaces, human expertise. We use AI thoughtfully to strengthen the quality, depth and efficiency of our work. By accelerating routine tasks, AI enables our consultants to focus on the strategic thinking, engagement, creativity, and contextual judgement required to deliver exceptional client outcomes. 
4. Maintain accountability. We remain accountable for the quality and integrity of our work. Our consultants are trained to critically assess AI-assisted outputs for accuracy, bias, completeness and relevance, ensuring recommendations are evidence-based, contextually appropriate and aligned with client needs. Robust review and approval processes ensure all outputs meet our quality standards. Responsibility for all decisions, recommendations and deliverables remains with our people.

We also support organisations to adopt AI responsibly, helping leaders establish effective governance, build capability and identify opportunities to create value. At the commencement of each engagement, we discuss and agree how AI may be used and ensure our approach aligns with client preferences and risk settings. Our use of AI is intended to enhance the quality, and efficiency of our work, while maintaining the high standards our clients expect.

To uphold our commitment to responsible AI, we have measures in place to ensure that every project maintains the highest standards of quality, transparency, and client alignment. These are: 

• Mutual agreement. At the commencement of all projects, we discuss with the client how and why AI will be used, the tools involved, and the risk mitigation measures in place. This ensures strict adherence to our clients’ preferences on AI usage.
• Accountability. For every project, we define clear roles and responsibilities for reviewing, validating and signing off on AI-generated content, with a designated Nous leader holding ultimate accountability for the accuracy and integrity of all deliverables.
• Capability. All Nous employees complete mandatory AI training, equipping them to use AI responsibly, minimise risks, and adhere to client preferences.
