Deniza is a health policy and research leader with extensive experience driving significant projects in Australia and abroad.
Passionate about improving healthcare systems, she combines strategic thinking with a focus on practical implementation to achieve better outcomes. Known for her collaborative and insightful nature, Deniza is dedicated to data-driven decision-making and evidence-based approaches, ensuring impactful and sustainable results.

Influential work

  • Led evaluations of complex multi-centre programs across Australia, including the Health Care Homes trial and the National Aged Care Workforce Reform Program, providing critical insights to national health policies
  • Developed clinical indicators for stroke, hip fracture, sepsis, acute coronary syndrome, and many other conditions, for the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, as well as for initiatives such as Hand Hygiene.
  • Advised on indicators for the Australian Atlas of Healthcare Variation, supporting quality improvement across the healthcare system
  • Led activity-based funding (ABF) initiatives for NSW Health, including costing, classification, pricing and implementation, and has since advised on funding approaches for state, national and international agencies, contributing to equitable healthcare funding
  • Has contributed to enhancements of the Australian Refined (AR-)DRGs and developed the code sets for the Australian Emergency Care Classification (AECC), resulting in more accurate tools for healthcare funding
  • Created and improved tools for planning and forecasting health service activity and workforce needs, such as the Service Related Group (SRG) classifications and a chemotherapy planning tool, both of which have enabled better planning of healthcare services

Outside of Nous

Before consulting, Deniza held senior roles in the public sector, including as Director of the Performance Analysis and Reporting Branch at the NSW Department of Health, where she led a 40-member team in managing health data collections, reporting on key indicators such as waiting times for emergency department care and surgery, and revamping business processes. Since 2022, Deniza has served as the President of Patient Classification Systems International (PCSI), a non-profit global organisation dedicated to advancing the development and use of patient classifications to improve healthcare funding, management, and outcomes.

Deniza has a lifelong passion for literature and takes every opportunity to read good books. She also loves staying physically active and travelling.
