Influential work

  • Strengthened system access during COVID-19 as executive medical director at Fraser Health, designing and leading a regional network that optimized patient flow and integrated critical care, surgical, and mental health services for 1.7M people
  • Transformed mental health care at Numinus, developing evidence-based clinical protocols and training programs, now internationally accredited, for advancing care of patients with severe mental health disorders
  • Co-chaired a provincial Emergency Services Advisory Council, leading the creation of a data-driven framework of solutions to tackle emergency department congestion, developing a framework, endorsed by the Ministry of Health, that provides actionable strategies for adoption by health service providers to improve efficiency and patient flow
  • Created data-informed physician development programs to drive physician performance improvement, reducing unnecessary admissions and saving thousands of hospital bed days
  • Pioneered simulation models establishing ED capacity thresholds, making overcapacity a region-wide patient safety priority

Outside of Nous

Before joining Nous, Neil held a series of senior leadership roles across the Canadian health sector. As Regional Medical Director at Numinus, he transformed mental health services and developed accredited clinical protocols. In his capacity as Vice President, Product and Protocol, he expanded evidence-based care across Canada and the US. At Fraser Health, Neil served as Executive Medical Director, Access, and previously led Emergency Medicine as Regional Medical Director and Department Head, driving physician performance and advancing patient flow strategies.

He has substantial clinical experience as an Emergency Physician and Trauma Team Leader at Royal Columbian Hospital and other major centres, contributing as an emergency physician during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics and as a STARS Flight Physician. Neil’s expertise and impact have been recognised with multiple honours in patient safety and care innovation.

In his spare time...

Outside of work, Neil is energized by creative and active pursuits. He enjoys pottery as a mindful, hands-on craft, and embraces adventure through kite surfing, snowboarding, biking, and regular fitness. A lifelong learner, he is also an avid reader.
