Rex has substantial experience working with health and biomedical data in academic and private research settings.
He has expertise handling complex data sources and building statistical models and pipelines to answer tricky questions. He has developed statistical software and applications used by researchers internationally and enjoys making complex methods easier to understand, apply and report.

Influential work

  • Developed the R package circacompare, which has been installed over 10,000 times, cited in over 130 academic journal articles, and is used by researchers around the world to analyse rhythmic time-series datasets
  • Developed and validated clinical prediction models for inpatient falls and clinical deterioration using electronic medical records from five hospitals
  • Developed interactive visualisations of access to traumatic brain injury care across Queensland to inform policy makers
  • Led the analyses and authored the work that first identified silicosis in stonemasons working with engineered stone products in Australia, which led to the ban of these high-risk products
  • Developed methods and software to optimise clinical decision support systems towards value-based care

Outside of Nous

Before working at Nous, Rex worked worked in several research roles academic and industry settings. He did a range of roles and projects from visualising health inequities, developing rapid diagnostic tests for COVID and influenza, developing clinical prediction models, and travelling to mining towns of Queensland to interview coal miners.

In his spare time...

Rex enjoys getting outdoors to camp, hike and ride motorbikes.
