Australian-founded international management consultancy Nous Group today announced the appointment of Tony Dalton as a Senior Advisor in its Defence team. 

Tony brings a wealth of experience from his extensive and decorated career in the Navy and the Australian Public Service. In a service career effectively split in two halves, Tony spent 39 years in the Navy. Qualifying at 19 as a naval aviator, Tony went on to amass 6000 flying hours, principally on four different helicopter types, and gained operational command experience at both the squadron and group level. 

The second half of his Navy career was primarily focused on leading increasingly complex acquisition and sustainment projects, ultimately at both the one- and two-star level. As a Rear Admiral, he led the Helicopter Systems Division in the Defence Materiel Organisation, formed and led Joint Systems Division within the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, and served as General Manager Ships, responsible for the acquisition of all of Navy’s surface ships and the establishment of naval shipbuilding at Osborne in South Australia and Henderson in Western Australia.

After leaving the Navy in 2019, Tony returned to Defence in a senior public service role as the Deputy Secretary National Naval Shipbuilding for four years, leading the formation of the Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group and responsible for the acquisition and sustainment of all of Navy’s surface ships and submarines.

In his new role of Senior Advisor at Nous, Tony will provide expert counsel to clients as Nous continues to grow its Defence work in Australia, the UK, and Canada.
