Clients value Laurie for his ability work through complexity to shape and sharpen strategic priorities and identify the actionable insights to unlock value.
With experience across the public, private and non-profit sectors, he has advised Secretaries of State, senior public officials and executives. As a consultant he has developed creative solutions on financial sustainability, organisational strategy, operational transformation and improving outcomes for services users. A trained social worker, Laurie is also Chair of Trustees of an award-winning children’s charity.

Influential work

  • Delivered a major national project to identify opportunities to improve outcomes and financial sustainability across local authority Special Educational Needs (SEND) systems, enabling local areas to secure multiple, £1m transformation grants from central government
  • Led project to drive customer value in national procurement agency, delivering actionable insights and strategic delivery plans to unlock potentially £ms of projected revenue growth
  • Developed the strategy and commissioning approach for a multi-site bed-based healthcare system, optimising patient outcomes while driving cost efficiency and patient flow
  • Set up new government arms-length body, including designing functions and roles, developing the business case, and producing "go live" plans
  • Led the multi-year Comprehensive Spending Review process for a major central government department, working with Ministers to set strategic investment priorities, and securing an £80bn+ p/a settlement from HM Treasury

Outside of Nous

Laurie transitioned into consulting following a decade working in central and local government - including strategy and policy roles in Cabinet Office and the Department for Education, and as a child protection social worker via the Frontline programme. 

He is the Chair of Trustees for Khulisa, an award-winning national charity that support young people experiencing trauma or adversity.

In his spare time...

Laurie lives in South East London, where he enjoys cycling, reading, watching rugby, and convincing his wife and two sons to join him in sampling the latest new specialist coffee shops in the area.
