Nous Group is proud to announce that it has commenced delivery of Performance Coaching Services with the Royal Australian Navy's Training Authority-Maritime Warfare, supporting Navy personnel to develop the human capabilities needed to perform effectively in demanding warfare environments. Nous commenced delivery on 1 July 2026 under a three-year contract.
The program complements Navy's technical training by strengthening the behavioural, leadership, and interpersonal capabilities that underpin performance in complex and high-pressure environments. Services include one-to-one and team coaching, tutorial delivery, psychometric assessments, live observation, and performance debriefing, integrated within Navy's training environment.
“Technical expertise is essential, but performance under pressure also depends on how people lead, communicate and work together,” said Tim Orton, Managing Principal and CEO of Nous Group. “We are proud to work alongside Navy to strengthen these capabilities as an integral part of its training.”
A defining feature of the partnership is the embedded nature of the work. Nous coaches are working closely with students, instructors and course staff, tailoring support to the rhythm, pressures, and needs of different training environments rather than delivering a standalone coaching program.
This approach recognises that Navy's warfighting capability relies not only on technical proficiency, but on people who can communicate, lead, adapt and perform when the stakes are high. The program is designed to help strengthen individual performance and the broader training environment in which that capability is developed.
"Coaching is powerful in its own right," said Kelly Samson, Principal at Nous Group. "In this context, its value is amplified by being deeply integrated into the performance team, connecting individual support with the training environment and the people responsible for delivering it.”
Nous has a long history of partnering with the Australian Navy and the broader Australian Defence Force, delivering strategic advice and impactful solutions to support their critical national missions. The firm previously worked with Navy to co-design the New Generation Navy (NGN) strategy, a major cultural transformation program designed to modernise Navy’s workforce. Nous also collaborates with the ADF on the Journey: Leading Transformation program, which drives strategic change and capability development, ensuring mission-focused outcomes.
Nous looks forward to continuing to work alongside Navy to learn from the program’s delivery, refine it, and strengthen its contribution to Navy's training and human performance priorities.
